Flynt: "Vitter lied"
On Tuesday's
Larry King show, Hustler publisher
Larry Flynt stated that "Vitter lied" when the Senator denied reports about his use of prostitutes in New Orleans. Flynt reiterated his claim that he has linked 5 New Orleans hookers to Vitter, and indicated that Hustler investigators are in New Orleans and are coordinating their research with "major Louisiana media".
Earlier today, Flynt told WDSU that Vitter was lying when he said that the stories about his involvement with prostitutes at the Canal Street brothel were "not true". Flynt expects to be able to reveal more within 10 days. WDSU reports that Wendy Cortez is among the five hookers that Flynt is talking to about Vitter. (

Flynt: Vitter Lying About New Orleans Prostitutes.)
That's about what I expected. Vitter's denial of the "New Orleans stories" on Monday came off like a
challenge to the media to find more evidence of Vitter's whoremongering in New Orleans, and to prove him wrong. I find Vitter 's willingness to play such an ultra-risky high-stakes political game to be so audacious that it invites suspicion. I still can't believe he actually did that after a week's worth of contemplation. Vitter's denial on Monday virtually ensured that the media would unearth more embarrassing disclosures and revelations, which would lead to more questions for Vitter, and more public pain for his family.

He sure dug himself up to his neck in this now. It's gonna be one hell of a thud when he hits the ground.
I agree that Vitter's living in a state of delusion and that he is essentially lying about the New Orleans prostitution story; but I'm also skeptical of Larry Flynt, too. I just can't bring myself to put my faith in anything Flynt says - at least not without a hint of doubt.
Like I said.. politics of severe hard-headedness.
It's not who has the facts on his side, it's who blinks first.
Vitter's really in deep doo-doo...up shit-creek (without a diaper?), etc. etc.
Last night Countdown also commented on Mrs. Vitter's choice of wardrobe for the press conference. They seemed to think leopard-print might not have been appropriate under the circumstances...
Again, it wasn't actually leopard print-- but it appeared to be that way on TV, and I guess that's all that counts in those situations.
Read that La. Weekly link you used in a comment on my blog -- you'll find Jim St. Raymond calling the Cortez story ridiculous. There are two big reasons for Vitter to be more defensive about the N.O. charges than the D.C.charges. The obvious one is that they're far worse for him, but also they'd may a lot of his colleagues look bad if proven. Not that Vitter especially loyal, but he can't have the entire state GOP mad at him.
In which case, by daring reporters to dig deeper into "those New Orleans stories" Vitter has just roundly screwed those colleagues of his.
You got linked to at Wonkette. You da man! Way to go buddy, you earned it.
But Oyster! The media only goes after Democrats like Gary Hart who dare them to investigate. Republicans get the free ride.
Oyster:
I think you misunderestimate the GOP. He simply took a page outta the Delay playbook.
The bosses told him "DENY DENY DENY." By focusing the press hounds on the past "alleged" misdeeds - it gives him more time NOT dealing with spinning the solid, evidentiary ones.
Once evidence is uncovered, he moves to the "political-enemies-bringing-up-old-shit" talking points.
Then, in the old New Orleans saying, he will "ride it out" - 'til election day.
