"Not sufficiently prepared"

New Orleans can host the Sugar Bowl, BCS championship game, NBA All Star game, Mardis Gras and Jazz Fest... but is apparently "not sufficiently prepared" to handle a televised forum with two Presidential candidates on stage simultaneously.

Douchemooks.

Update: I hope the hopelessly "overstuffed" Po Boy Preservation event didn't factor into the Presidential Debate committee's unfortunate decision. (A very hungry oyster family went to the festival with high hopes, but found the crowds and lines to be overwhelming.)
---

Update #2: Mr. Clio pens a strongly-worded letter to the Commission.
---
Update #3: As does Professor Morris.

Update #4: Read Gentilly Girl, and her links.

They probably passed us up because only one voice on either side of the aisle cares about us: John Edwards.

The rest don't wish to be confronted by the sight of misery that they could have healed over the last two years.

They are cowardly fuckmooks.

If anybody deserves to ask them questions, it's you guys.

It was predictable. The Repubs don't want the mess they made here to be an issue.

Adrastos is right on this one. There's no way the Republicans were going to okay a debate in New Orleans. What's more unfortunate is that the commission just won't say that the two sides could not come to agreement on New Orleans.

I would press the Commission on Presidential Debates to explain what they mean when they say New Orleans is "not sufficiently prepared" to handle presidential debates.

These are the different criteria as listed in the CPD application form:

Section 1: Application form
Section 2: Facilities
Section 3: Telecommunications
Section 4: Hotels
Section 5: Transportation
Section 6: City services
Section 7: Catering
Section 8: Finances
Section 9: Additional Information (optional)

Where exactly does NOLA come up short? If you can force the CPD to answer how NOLA is not "prepared" you can highlight to the entire country the ongoing problems facing New Orleans. If CPD won't comment on the selection process then they are a bunch of secretive wankers who have no business deciding where our presidential debates should be held in the first place.

The first debate will be in Oxford, MS. Oxford has better transportation and hospitality infrastructure than NOLA? Danville, KY (population 15,409, 1 hour outside metropolitan Lexington) was selected as a backup site. Please compare and contrast the just how prepared Danville, KY is to host major events with New Orleans.

Danville, KY my ass. WTF. Obviously the fix was in. The trick now is to reveal the charlatans behind the curtains at CPD.

I'm fairly confident that the correct word is "douchecrites."

That said, the T-P had a great editorial this morning about this.

I will be addressing this horrific injustice tomorrow. I just have too much going on today.

Why not set up our own debate and straight up invite them old school style?

Some candidates supported the idea? Great. Now they can put their money where their mouth is. Candidate, here's your invitation to the party, we'll be waiting for you. Grow some spine and get down here. We'll reserve you a parking spot.

Sure will seperate the real candidates from the chumps.

(Can't beleive I missed you at the Po Boy festival either.)
