Quotes of the weak
-- Dog the Bounty Hunter, on Hannity and Colmes, apologizing for his use of the "N-word" (starts about 2 minutes in on this Best Week Ever vid clip). "Even if someone is dying"?!
"Talk to you later, Buckwheat."
-- State Rep. Carla Dartez, who explained her comment to the mother of an NAACP president by saying that she'd heard the expression on an "Eddie Murphy tape" she'd purchased at Wal-Mart. Apparently, "Dartez indicated she did not realize that the term 'buckwheat' could be interpreted as a racial slur." She should've observed how YRHT has used "buckwheat" to good effect referring to Bush, tourists and political neophytes. That's how you do it. Funny like.
"What is the difference between a black man and a nigger?"
-- Eunice Mayor Bob Morris allegedly asked, when questioning Detective Ronnie Brown. I wrote "nigger" instead of "n----r" because... embarrassing confusions can occur.

Oh, dear Lord! Who ties this woman's shoes for her in the morning? She's clearly lacks the mental capacity to do it herself.

Everytime someone brings up the Dartez comment I keep thinking of Eddie Murphy's bit where Buckwheat sings. "Unce, tice, fee times a mady"..... "Wookin pa nub in all the wong paces... Wookin pa nub".
How she could think that calling someone Buckwheat was not insulting!?!?!? She is really an idiot.
These quotes just expose the fact that racism is alive and well in our society.
If this dumb ass couldn't figure out that Buckwheat may insult some people, I wonder what else she has learned from an Eddie Murphy tape.
Hello there Rev. Sharpen, you a fine looking nigger.
Hello there Rev. Jackson, how's your bitch?
And shit, why don't Dartez own a DVD player?

I agree, the Eddie Murphy "excuse" brings up even more troubling questions about this whole episode.
Dartez pleads "ignorance" rather than telling the truth. And I'll bet the truth is that she was drunk during the phone call.
I've never heard "Buckwheat" used as a racial slur, although it was certainly a stupid think for Dartez to say (why did she think it would be funny?).
On the other hand, I see no reason to think she intended it as a racial slur -- after all, she was *thanking* Boykin for helping to drive voters to the polls. She probably really did just think it was a amusing reference after watching the old SNL tape -- yet another example of reference humor falling flat.
Still, while there are many good reasons why Dartez shouldn't be re-elected. This isn't a great one. Nonetheless, I'm very pleased to see the NAACP fighting against the re-election of a Democratic State Representative in a run-off with a Republican opponent. :)

Couregges, Did you happen to catch a look at the woman she directed this comment to?
It would be like calling your Grandma a Ho. Not so funny.
I think Dartez's excuse should be she was drunk and watching Eddie Murphy.

Apparently at last one black performer doesn't feel is is a racial slur, BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO uses it as his stage name.
According to his website Stanley Joseph Dural, Jr. was called Buckwheat by a friend as a child because his hair resembled the Our Gang character.
I also like Buckwheat pancakes.
I've been meaning to tell you what a clever "weakly" feature this is. Well done, sir.
Your comment about Dartez being drunk during the phone call is the first thing I have heard about this incident that makes any sense. I mean, Jesus, even a fucking dumb racist knows better than to call a black person "Buckwheat" to her face. Or ear. Whatever.
