Should he resign, or just vaguely apologize for an unspecified "sin"?

Huge blow to the Democratic Party.
While power can corrupt anyone, regardless of Party, the Democrats have vigorously courted independents, conservatives, and progressives concerned about ethics and transparency in government.
Spitzer was a poster child for this effort. He staked his whole political persona on it.
I'm curious to see the fallout on the campaign trail. Spitzer was a big Clinton booster.
He'll certainly step down, no?
No. Not certainly.
I seem to recall another "poster child" for family values who was recently named in another prostitution scandal.
But he was a Republican from Louisiana, and he got to keep his job without anyone claiming this was a "huge blow" to the Republican Party.
Just saying...

Spitzer is a well-known crusader for "ethics" whatever that means in... but not "family values" which is something very different in my mind.
Not saying that this won't damage him... and not saying that it's something to approve of... but it's not exactly the same brand of hypocrisy.
Has his wife ever threatened to cut off his wiener?
Another excuse for bloggers and the media to suggest that Louisiana's morals are "different" than New York's.

I find it interesting that Vitter's name was NEVER leaked out of the Justice Department after the DC Madam was arrested, (it took Larry Flynt to connect Vitter to it, if I remember my facts correctly), while Spitzer's name is leaked within one week.
Would Justice be playing politics?
LOVE the title to this post! Heehe!
Eliot Spitzer is so dumb. He could have bought an old Cadillac Eldorado for less than $4,000, then he could cruise chicks in his bitchin' ride and get the chicks for free. We need more pragmatic government.

Joejoejoe's idea worked for Edwin Edwards on sorority row at LSU. Why wouldn't it work for Spitz?
Pelvic issues and politics are really boring me now. (Well, except for Vitter. That diaper stuff was something else.) As privacy fades away thanks to electronics, I think we all are going to have be more forgiving. And people like Vitter are going to have to be less strident, because these days, you will eventually get caught.
Reminds me of something I read in Esquire once: No matter how hard you try to hide it, when you die, they will find your porn. I think they wrote that before the dawn of the internets.
I'm surprised he's trying to weather the storm.
I still feel that the tensions of a Presidential election year make Spitzer's attempt to wait out the media cycle so much more difficult than the Vitter situation. The disclosure about Vitty's improprieties occurred during the dead summer months and he locked himself in a bunker for a week before even addressing the news.
scratch that, looks like he's not trying to weather the storm.
Yeah, you're right. There wasn't any way.
A real shame, to be sure. But, I'm happy about the Lt. Guv's promotion, and I guess Dem partisans still have the "It's OK if you're a Republican" argument.
I think he should go just for the hypocrisy of it. He was the attorney general, highest law enforcer in the state. I personally think prostitution should be legalized, taxed and regulated, but it ain't. If I was an elected official sworn to uphold the law, I would damned sure not be breaking it. It shows disrespect and a dishonest, arrogant character. I feel the same way about Vitter, naturally. I wasn't happy about Bill Clinton lying in a deposition, even if it was a put-up job, but even that was not as cynical or premeditated. Vitter and Spitzer carefully planned all this out, knowing they were breaking the law.
