"April is the cruelest month..."

The NY Times interrupts its inexorable devolution to inform us that "Bloggers are Mortal".

Thanks for the newsflash, Grey Lady. I'll try to remember that.

Retarded perspective of the linked story aside, despair isn't something anyone signs up for when they start a blog.

Yes, it seems obvious that something would eventually happen but, it's not a consideration people make when they begin.

Rather, it's a sobering realization somewhere along the line.

If people ask me about Ashley, I just say "my friend" died rather than "a fellow blogger" or "someone I know online" because the instant reaction would be that the sorrow must somehow be lessened because it was a friendship comprised mostly of words on the Internet, not so real.

Funny though, it seems in that stripped down relationship, the closeness is genuine in an altered way. Pleasantries like "How are you doing?" and "What did you do last night?" are stripped away and only the most genuine and to-the-point communications are left. This leads to a different form of friendship than one that may exist with a neighbor or someone out at the bars and festivals. Not so much better or worse just different.

I have absolutely had it with these weird-ass "lifestyles of the imaginary yuppie archetype" kinds of articles in the NYT.

Speaking as a decidedly unfatigued blogger and un-"hip" library worker, I really really really want them to stop it stop it stop it!!
