I hope the President goes out of his way to remind our stricken Midwestern friends that there will be a zero tolerance policy for looting.

What happened in 93, the last year of major midwest floods? I wasn't living in NO at the time as I was still in Kansas City, one site of the massive Midwest floods. There was a lot of speculation at that time that a wall of water was on it's way to NO. But I seem to recall NO being OK, although the details get more fuzzy with age and senility.
Anyone know? Certainly, NO isn't as well equipped this time around.

Good question.
If I remember this correctly, the Upper and Lower Mississippis River flood for different reasons. Maybe someone with a greater understanding of the hydrology can explain why but I don't think the Midwest floods necessarily mean trouble further downriver.
Some of my friends have been unable to return to their homes near Iowa City...and it's just heartbreaking.
Ugh.
But Jeffrey has a point.
