Blinded by anti-science

From a 2006 article in the Anchorage Daily News:

The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms.
The Republican Party of Alaska platform says, in its section on education: "We support giving Creation Science equal representation with other theories of the origin of life. If evolution is taught, it should be presented as only a theory."

The issue of teaching an alternative to evolution has turned into an issue in the current race for governor in Michigan, where Republican Dick DeVos said he wanted to see students exposed to the idea of intelligent design.

Yay! And she homeschools!

Dick DeVos heavily contributed to Bobby Jindal, and also contibuted to the insane, un-American Christian Reconstructionist movement. DeVos founded the pro-voucher group All Children Matter, and was a President of the CNP.

Apparently, if you want to be a heavily funded "rising star" in today's GOP, you better believe in the value of creationist anti-science in the classroom.

Evolution is just a "theory"... sort of like hurricanes. For example, I don't believe hurricanes are purely meteorological phenomena, whose paths and intensities are determined by weather conditions and ocean temperature. For me, hurricanes are the wet throwing stars of a displeased deity. They're purposely aimed at centers of decadent behavior, to warn and punish the unsaved and once-born.

That's my "theory". So-called scientists have a different "theory". Let's have a debate, so that both sides of the issue can be presented, and young minds can decide for themselves.

Here's a laugh. John at the conservative blog Powerline remarked:

I'm worried about Palin. I'm afraid she may be the Geraldine Ferraro of 2008. If she really is the nominee, will it come across as a desperation move, a Hail Mary, as Mondale's choice of Ferraro did in 1984? I'm afraid so. Her experience just doesn't justify a place on the ticket. If McCain really wanted to go radical, Bobby Jindal was the far sounder choice--but maybe Jindal turned him down, on the theory that he needs to do his job as Governor of Louisiana before trying to go national.

He don't know our PBJ very well, do he?

H/T Tim

Dick DeVos's dad (Richard) was my mom's landlord in college. He's an asshole.

My parents also went to school with Betsy Prince - now Betsy DeVos, Dick's wife, former head of the MI Republican Party - and of course the sister of Erik Prince, supreme ruler of all Evil, founder/Pres of Blackwater.

That family is poison in Michigan. Unfortunately they own most of Kent County (Grand Rapids).

actually I think powerline may be partially right. I think McCain really wanted PBJ. PBJ saw 1) it was a losing ticket and 2) politically it would look worse to jump ship so quickly. especially since he abandoned a Congressional seat.

There's no chance he was asked and turned it down.

There's NO CHANCE you can prove there was NO CHANCE...

But don't let that keep you from talking-or is it typing (or blogging)-in absolutes...

There is NO WAY you'd rather talk about all the Democrats in your hometown that are getting lapdance out of their district, punching ho's, stiffarming real estate deals for YMCA's, shaking down the feds for work they never did, or commandeering state and federal disaster recovery assets in order to get to their house and pull some thawing benji's out of the freezer?

Give. it. a. rest.

Ugh, anyone who says "just a theory" annoys me.

And no, there is no way that Jindal turned it down. If asked, he would have accepted.

You couldn't be more wrong, go. Derrick Shepherd is my nemesis, and he's done some wicked things that make those examples look like patty cake. Back in 2005, I had the good son him. No one has bashed Shepherd more consistently than me, publicly and privately. I have 3 BRUTAL posts on him saved as blog "drafts" that I haven't published because of fear of lawsuit. As I said before, he's my "nemesis". I worked hard to keep him out of higher office while the local media endorsed him. He's going down, thankfully, and the machine he created will probably go down with him.

So, your comment couldn't be more wrong. It's so wrong it's laughable. Check the archives. Ask anyone who knows me personally.

oyster - Jindal's got his issues, and I'm no Jindal advocate, but let's be fair. He is more qualified than Palin for the VP slot. That's not saying much, but it's objectively true.

No argument here.

But PLEASE. When McSenile came a'courtin', we all knew that it was to pay lip-service to the already-coronated heir apparent to Dumbya. This is no happenstance, no coincidence.

1. Put Edwin Edwards in prison.
2. Go after every other prominent democrat, whether they're filthy as hell or pure as the driven snow, so that republicunts can claim to be "reformers."
3. Put Jim Bernhard in control of the state party, so that the entire enterprise is neutered faster than a feral cat.
4. But how, HOW do we destroy that last solidly-democratic voting bloc in the ENTIRE SOUTH?!??!?!...
5. Oh, look! When NOLA is "rebuilt" with caucasian carpetbaggers, BOBBY FINALLY GETS ELECTED!!! Whatta miracle!

No, that avaricious twerp would NEVER turn down an actual shot at the office. McSenile ain't it. So guess what step #6 is gonna be...

And I know exactly why Bobby's talking so fucking fast, and why all that he really says is, "Look at all the ways that we're going to carry our welfare queens! We're covering our asses, look! Buses!" --- the same reason that Blackwater's already issued the hiring order to invade, the same reason that everybody down to Mike Edmondson has to repeat the disclaimer, "...well, there has to be an element of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY..."

CYA, baby, CYA.

Hope that you and yours are all well and ready, Erster. Holler if y'all need ANYTHING. Seriously.

I'd rather a governor who covers his ass, instead of Blanco, who just covered bodies...
