One of these things is not like the others

Found at The Big Picture, where commenter ambivalentmaybe says "What the hell is 'New Orleans' doing in that line? Was the cartoonist pressed to show some sort of 'balance' between large for-profit corporations, on the one hand, and an American city devastated by Army Corps of Engineers malfeasance?"

Not surprised at all.

Typical republicunt view of New Orleans and New Orleanians as "welfare queens." I actually know "people" (barely) who fucking CHEERED as human beings drowned in the streets of New Orleans, who exaggerated the "riots" (never actually heard of any ACTUAL riots), "rapes" (other than Charmaine, didn't find evidence of any others), "looting," etc., so that they could justify the ignorance and racism that "justified" their hatred of New Orleans.

And yes, most of them were raised in or around Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge and the surrounding klan-mentality areas have always envied/loathed New Orleans, because it's always been a separate, N. Caribbean country, a truly international community, part of "the OUTSIDE world." To fear-mongering recidivist rednecks, that is highly threatening to their cliche' views of the world, their isolationist chickenshit hiding from the rest of the planet, and their bass-ackwards views of how "things ought to be done."

Same kind of mongrel bipeds who agreed with Falwell or whichever batshit televangelist blamed Katrina on Southern Decadence.

If they'd ever learned anything from these experiences, at least there'd be some kind of poetic justice, but they don't. They just keep forwarding their bullshit Rovian e-mails about Obama being a "secret muslim," about gang-rapes in every block of Orleans Parish (never Jefferson or the Nawth Shaw, of course), and about how somebody will offer you a perfume sample in the parking lot of Wal-Mart, and you'll wake up in a tub of ice, missing a kidney.

Ignorance is still, unfortunately, highly prevalent in this country, and batshit-crazy bigotry is just one of the many horrific symptoms of that. How in the hell else do you explain the "success" of absofuckinglutely insane assholes like McSenile & Caribou Barbie?

BTW, with "No Child Left Behind" gutting every aspect of the public schools, look forward to another 20 or 30 years of ignorance and superstition ruling this country.

Nothing like a "legacy," eh?

What in the hell... ?

And where is the stock "Uncle Sam" character with the "U.S. Government" written on his shirt?

For that matter, where's "Galveston"?

I'm gonna vomit.

Oops.

Just did.

P.S. Nice racial mix in the cartoon, too.

Oh, for CRYING OUT LOUD. That is so, so stupid.

Hey. There are at least five, maybe six of us here who love New Orleans. Take heart, Anntichrist!

one thing to note though, new orleans is at the end of the line, we keep getting pushed to the end of the line by the various others who are showing up for the shakedown... and look at nola's face... he has a WTF look like what not another group coming to get in the way of my recovery. I think the toon actually implies new orleans is supposed to be getting help but is being cutoff by the undeserving.

Schleifstein is exactly right. I was careless in missing the point.

The New Orleans guy looks shocked that all these fatcats keep shoving their way in front of him.

But NOLA is not in line to shake anybody down, and that's where the drawing is (perhaps unintentionally)
misleading.

Precisely.

guess it would work better if the car maker guy was pushing the nola guy out of the way or if it had a panel one with a thank you handshake btwn nola and taxpayers followed by pushy shakedowners
