I like some of Vidal's work, but oh he can be such a bitch. Quotes like that make you understand why during the 68 convention, the normally dry and stoic William F Buckley told him "Now listen, you queer, stop calling me a crypto-Nazi or I will sock you in your goddamn face, and you will stay plastered."

All Newty is saying is that, since, as all the best people know, we must have fascism regardless, it's better to have the religious, superstitious-heterosexual kind.

Gore Vidal likes to say provocative things, but that doesn't really sound like him. And I don't see why he'd deny saying it if he did say it - recanting something he did say *definitely* isn't like him. But who knows? BTW, nothing comes up for me when I go to the provided links, except one of those idiotic fucking 'Soda Head' ads.

BTW 2: who are the scummy morons behind Soda Head anyway?
