Cao not cowed by Mighty Maha Rushi

Big Red Cotton sent us an email about a call she made to Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao's office. Big Red Cotton asked whether Cao, like Rush Limbaugh, wanted President Obama to "fail". The response:

Cao's chief of staff Clayton Hall says on the record:

"No... the problems in this country are too big. Rush Limbaugh can say whatever he wants to say. Congressman Cao does not want the president to fail"

So I asked him does Cao want the stimulus package, which he voted against, to fail. Hall gave a curt "No".

By publicly defying El Rushbo, is our diminutive Congressman displaying a sturdier backbone than the rest of the dittoheads in his party, combined?

Cao ain't skeered! He knows kung fu. Rush doesn't. Rush can't whip him.

Looks like Cao is getting back on track. Despite pressure from Republican leaders, Cao recently bucked his party and voted FOR the Dems' $410 billion spending bill covering the final seven months of the 2009 fiscal year. Earlier, Cao was leaning towards voting FOR the Dems Stimulus bill, but then voted against it at the last minute. President Obama was trying to reach Cao prior to the Stimulus vote in attempt to persuade the Representative, but the Prez couldn't get through because Cao's office was "flooded" with calls and the lines were busy.

Umm, Cao, please make sure the POTUS has your personal cell # or a dedicated line to your office so that he can reach you when you're wondering how to vote on a Trillion dollar bill. That would be a good time to leverage your standing as an independently-minded Republican in a way that might benefit your district. M'kay? Thanks.

Jindal has no such balls. Called Rush a "great leader" and went into painful contortions to avoid condemning the "of course I want him to fail" comments.

Democrats have hit on a great strategy by setting up Rush as the head of the GOP and bashing his skull in. They've found a leader even less popular than Bush!

I think Rush Limbowel would make a great "Skipper" if they bring back Gilligan's Island.

David Vitter could be Gilligan and Nancy Polusky could be the movie star. I will be the Doctor and Jenna Fischer could be Mary Anne.

Wait......Vitter may try to hump Fischer. I casted her for me to hump.

"That would be a good time to leverage your standing as an independently-minded Republican"

I'd submit that as a responsible representative, he'd do better to listen to his constituents and vote their conscience. A congressman's lines should always be open to the people.

"in a way that might benefit your district." In what way? Are you talking about earmarks? Obama promised that there would be no earmarks. None. I hear there's over 9,000 in his bloated budget.

How's that campaign promise thing working out for you?

No, Cao should vote the wishes of his district and let the President get in line like everyone else.

Cao, like the rest of them, will no doubt end up here.

Paw Paw: As the linked article states "As the vote approached, Obama tried to call Cao, but the congressman's office was so flooded with calls, the president couldn't get through. Cao ended up voting no. But, he acknowledges, if President Obama had reached him and made a concrete commitment to help New Orleans and the 2nd District, that might have been persuasive."

Somehow the Obama Cao thing doesn't sound too good for the White House either. It seems the White House ought to have a spare intern or two to try to reach Cao. It's also only a few blocks from the West Wing to the Capitol.

"Don't tell the Republicans, but I might be a closet Democrat," said Cao to a round of laughter.

That would be a good idea, Rep. Cao.
