Political Rumor

John Georges will run for mayor. He arrived at some sort of understanding with Councilmember Arnie Fielgood, and Fielgood won't run.

This comes from an almost impeccable source who swears it is twice-confirmed. I still don't believe it, but thought it was interesting enough to pass along.

I'm skeptical of this here internet rumor despite your faith in your source.

Besides... Isn't Jackie running? If so wouldn't it make this kind of deal moot?

By Blogger jeffrey, at 2:56 PM

CHM seems to trying to up her statesmanship quotient lately so maybe she will run.

By Blogger mominem, at 2:56 PM

I believe Georges may run but I'm dubious of the deal with Arnie the goo-goo. He'd have to soil his hands with politics and cooties.

He's among the last MFers I'd want running the city. The handbasket would pick up speed with him in City Hall.

free cigs and poker chits for every vote.

i'm in.

I'm skeptical of the rumor too, but the source is highly connected and swears its twice-confirmed.

Please note: an "understanding" is different than a "deal". There might've been a deal, or there might've just been a threat to drop $12 million bucks on the race and the other party to the discussion suddenly didn't "feel good".

Good Lord.

Perry/Gadbois for co-mayorship!

I can also confirm the Shellfish on this one.

Just to clarify. I'm not skeptical of the Georges is running portion of this rumor... only the Arnie is not running bit.

By Blogger jeffrey, at 5:43 PM

I have a hard time believing that the decision is final but he's truly not interested right now apparently.

Georges??? Damn white devil.....

Oops...sorry. Wrong blog.

I'm skeptical, dubious, understanding, having a hard time believing and most of all, don't care.

Oh yeah, I horny as a(n) mf'er.

Now that's something to care about and can be resolved. Off to resolution.

Gentilly, Samaritan's Purse is affiliated with Franklin Graham and gets a lot of criticism (follow the links in the comments) from the left. If it has to turn over the houses over to low income locals, I don't know if it can abuse that. Aren't they partnering with Franklin Avenue Baptist? I can't find anything negative about it. Being the secular humanist cynic that I am, I'm always suspicious of any church that grows as fast as it did, but I can't recall anything bad about that church. I don't recall its minister Fred Luter getting involved in any recent elections. He was not one of the ministers who endorsed Jefferson. He also was not one of the ministers who went to Washington to protest Obama's intention to reform and bring transparency to the federal contracting process. There's nothing suspicious when I look up his name on the state corporate database, i.e. nothing like MCCI that has nothing to do with church work. So, he doesn't seem to be a minister/businessman who uses his political influence to serve both God and Mammon. Unless there's something I don't know about the local partner, my guess would be that the worst Samaritan's Purse could be doing here is grandstanding.

B.S.J.D. , Hey.

All I can say is wow. Thank you for throwing that info out there.

I've learned more about my neighborhood in a comment section on a blog than I could find out from all the local media outlets combined.

Thank you sincerly for helping me figure out where to go to learn about this and thank you Oyster for letting me use your comments section to find this info.

This is, of course, the very same John Georges who contributed big bucks to the "DiaperDave" Vitter Legal Defense fund, so that the 'Sinator' wouldn't have to plunder his children's college fund. Shameful Arnie!

By Blogger Touchgrey, at 10:10 AM

It's hard to believe (and it's a disappointment) that Arnie won't run.

By Blogger T-Shirts and Bumper Stickers, at 9:58 PM

You're welcome Gentilly. Sorry to make another comment on item that's not related to the post Oyster, but I want to acknowledge that the criticism of Samaritan's Purse may be politically motivated. If I were really interested I'd found out how common it is for the BBB to say

Despite written BBB Wise Giving Alliance requests in the past year, this organization either has not responded to Alliance requests for information or has declined to be evaluated in relation to the Alliance’s Standards for Charity Accountability. While participation in the Alliance’s charity review efforts is voluntary, the Alliance believes that failure to participate may demonstrate a lack of commitment to transparency. Without the requested information, the Alliance cannot determine if this charity adheres to the Standards for Charity Accountability.

If it's not common, I'd be suspicious of Samaritan's Purse. If it is common, I'd wonder just how big a racket the non-profit business is in general.

Arnie has been stung badly by the recent flap with Nagin, who turned it all into a racial thing. Arnie does not handle angry black people well, and that perhaps says something about his ability to make tough decisions as mayor. More to the point, I don't think Arnie handle angry people-of-any-color well, which says a lot about his potential as a mayor. I don't say this to be ugly to him; he just doesn't like to alienate anyone, which is impossible in politics.

That said, I think Arnie and Georges probably spoke (at Georges' request, no doubt), and the "understanding" is purely on Georges' part. I agree with Oyster that there is probably no "deal," but the "understanding" is merely Georges' interpretation of how their conversation went. Arnie is licking his wounds right now and probably going through a blue funk about running for mayor. Bottom line: he hasn't made up his mind definitively one way or the other, but he's probably "tilting" against running AT THE PRESENT TIME. Things could change drastically in the next few weeks or months.

Isn't that redundant?

In re: Franklin Graham: Pure-dee, undiluted EEE-VUL. The antithesis of his daddy & mama, purely in EVERYTHING for the money, political gain, and power. Would NEVER be in the same room as FG and a knife, no matter where either of us was standing.

Wish I could recall where I saw the severely-negative shit about Samaritan's Purse and "CONVERT/CONFORM OR DIE!!!" mentalities in regard to homeless shelters/n-p operations, but it's late and I'm half brain-dead. Yes, only HALF. Run away. Run away from Franklin Graham and his neonazi-wannabe hairspray addicts as fast as you can.

Oh, and back to that smug little republicunt Georges: I'd vote for Al "Superman" Jones or Al Scramuzza before I'd vote for that no-neck prick.

By Blogger Anntichrist S. Coulter, at 12:53 AM

Total BS rumor put out by the John Georges camp to try and pry away Fielkow support at this early stage. There is now way that Arnie Fielkow will support that crook in any political office.

Georges & Hedge-Morrell are playing games with you guys because that's where this crazy rumor started. You guys played right into this crooked nitwits hands by posting this.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:40 AM

Oh, goody. Mayor Malaka. Maybe you guys should consider running a potted plant against him.
