It's a few weeks old, but I thought the Gambit's "adieu" to Recovery Czar Ed Blakely was quite solid.
How Nagin was able to find (or attract) such an ineffectual, arrogant flim-flam artist still shocks me. At the time, I figured if Nagin was going to find another person to do his job, the chances were pretty good that things would improve. But they didn't. Credit to Jeffrey, David and others who saw through Blakely from the get go.
There's a fairly unfunny movie out now titled "Year One". It's about two knuckleheads who go on an adventure. But New Orleans already saw the prequel to this film, starring Nagin and Blakely. It was called "Day Zero".

Nagin has always sought to have other people do his job, but he then wouldn't actually let them. He messed with everything.
First it was Meffert then Blakeley, who obviously wanted to be named "Deputy Mayor", like Meffert claimed. Now it's Brenda Hatfield.
I've said for years that a salesman can always sell another salesman.
I think thats what happened with Blakeley. He sold Nagin a reflection of himself.
