Heh

The National Review has another hilarious cover 'toon. How do they do it? This one's funny because it shows President Obama planning to reach in your ass with his hand, which is funny because it involves another man's hand in your ass. Har har! It's like that "Moon River" scene in Fletch: you don't want another person's hand in your ass, but circumstances compel you to play along until the unnecessary anal probe inevitably occurs.

Heh. Heh. What a rip snorter.

Greg has a new cartoon, too. But it doesn't involve strange anal intrusions, and is therefore not as funny.

Thanks for linking to Greg's 'cartoon.' No, it's not as funny...but I guess that's the point.

There's a difference between a cover illustration and a cartoon (and a brief essay, for that matter). I somehow doubt Greg's cartoon would look appropriate on the cover of a magazine.

The NR illustration is supposed to say "ha, funny picture, now look inside for insightful argumentation." Greg's cartoon isn't really a cartoon at all, but a brief essay. I also don't think it's particularly compelling. (There is a program that allows him to get insurance -- so where's the urgent need for the "public option?" Also, why can't we just subsidize private plans with tax credits?).

There are arguments for a public plan, but these emotional appeals dodge the real issues. They aren't a serious response to this debate; they're the more maudlin equivalent of a goofy charicature of Obama, only without the substantive content waiting inside.
