Oh dear
Attentive YRHT readers may recognize the name Audra Shay. Most notably, Shay was the
chairperson of the Greater New Orleans Republicans in 2006 when they endorsed Ray Nagin for re-election. You could say Shay has multifarious
connections to those extremely intelligent GNOR luminaries who thought Nagin was the best choice for mayor in 2006.
Also, a few years ago I had the pleasure of seeing Audra get absolutely
torched in a televised political debate against my friend Brian.
Well, guess what? Thirty-eight year old Audra Shay is now running to become President of the Young Republicans!
Yay! And she received the
endorsement of Governor Jindal!
Double Yay!! And then she
encouraged a racist commenter on her Facebook page!
Triple yay for Shay!!Whoopsy poopers. That last one was a no no. Shay got caught, and tried to delete her racist error and de-friend the people who were offended. Then she went into lockdown mode for a while and then ended up claiming (implausibly) that she hadn't noticed the racist slur when she typed her affirming reply. Then she apologized.
Now (presumably) her chances of being elected President of the Young Republicans have diminished. Poor Audra.

The "Young" Republicans? I think you may presume a bit prematurely...I contend that while many "Old" Republicans were of the country club, find-blacks-distasteful-but-don't-necessarily-need-to-oppress-them set, "Young" Republicans are often the most virulent of culture warriors whose all is defined by identity politics.

If that's the case, I've certainly never seen it. I've run into at least as many racists who are "good liberals" as I have active Republicans.
In any event, I don't know whether Ms. Shay was lying about failing to see the second (racist) comment or not. It sounds perfectly plausible to me; I'll often respond to some comments sequentially but never read all the way through the thread.
However, her bizarre subsequent response (de-friending people) was wholly inappropriate given the circumstances, as was her failure to immediately explain herself. If it were me, I would have immediately looked back and said "Whoa! I wasn't responding to *that,* That guy's a racist freak."
This is definitely one of those "what was she thinking" moments.
LOL...Come spend a few days with me down in Da Parish, working with all of the "gentlemen" from the rural North Shore and Tex/Miss/Ala....

I'm sure you see the same thing among the yellow dog Democrat "go union" guys up north. It's nothing peculiar to Republicans. In any event, the people who joint the "Young Republicans" aren't typically the rural bigot set.

I do find some humor in the labeling of Republicans as mired identity politics...
