An olympian-sized whopper
Umm, I remember it a bit differently. Two years ago, political operatives were utterly shocked by the money John Georges dumped on the street before the gubernatorial election. For example, Georges was paying triple what another well-funded campaign was willing to pay for the usual and customary election day considerations. Georges got the local endorsements, and won Orleans parish, but it wasn't because he was some swell independent candidate who inspired voters to buck the political leadership in their ward, and vote for him over candidates who were willing to "pay to play". In fact, it was the exact opposite: Georges may have set a record in terms of dollars spent per votes received by a gubernatorial candidate in Orleans parish. He dumped big bucks into New Orleans, and not all of that went to conventional advertising, I promise you.
The media should ask Georges about his claim that he didn't spend money in "the black community" for the election. If Georges denies that he spent street money in New Orleans in 2007, that will be the biggest lie in the campaign, and it came right out of the gate.

thanks for picking up on that erster.
i wish wbok would podcast their shows like wist.
the georges interview over there a few weeks back was a doozy.
not a huge fan of asher and johnson but it's still the closesest to balanced talk radio in the city.
and that richie guy's sports show is pretty damn good.
side note : i went to the fairgrounds today and wound up sitting next to malcom suber in the cheap seats.
now i know what they mean by being a fly on the wall.

Heh. That's interesting.
Yeah, I don't know why, but for someone who can't tolerate much talk radio of any stripe, I have an amazingly strong tolerance for Asher and Kaaaaare J. Can listen to those two for hours, whereas I can't take more than 15 minutes of anyone else.
Actually, I did catch a little from richie's sport show and thought it was very good. Will have to find ways to hear more from him.
do the podcast page cuz.
johnson is such a shit stirer in a good way.
asher was dead on the first two years after katrina and his sports show before katrina was awesome.
i just get bummed by those two sometimes because it seems that they are shilling too much.
they eat and drink on the radio and give smoke up the butt to their sponsers.
ala tom fitzmorris.
i guess when you are the small market guy it's a do or die thing.
still they do pull gems from the mine.
like i said before i wish wbok would podcast.
some of the mess they broadcast is amazing.
malcom sez hey.
just kidding.

Rick, that's the local radio business from what I understand. The job is something like 1/8 information 1/8 entertainment and 6/8 Billy Mays soulless salesman bullshit. Seems to me these guys make waay too many personal compromises in order to do the job they do. I feel bad for them. Okay I don't feel too bad for Kaare. That guy bugs the shit out of me.
nice breakdown jeffery.
it just bugs me when im working an event outside of work and the people i see eating and drinking for free are media or pols.
sometimes i feel so dirty .
just kidding i do the same thing as a hospiltality worker.
it just blows my mind how most people take media sound bytes as gospel.
as always you and the erster and all the nola bloggers are giving more slants to the peeps so we can make a more informed decision.
for this i will allways be yall's (ick) fanboy.

One of the kids at Cohen HS for the Mayoral Youth Forum the other night, all dressed up in a "Georges for Mayor" t-shirt, didn't even know who he was after he had walked through and shook her hand. When I asked the kids how much Georges had paid them, she replied, "He isn't paying us but he IS sponsoring our track team!"
Just a clue, John, next time make sure they know who you are...
